Beats Music executives including Jimmy Iovine are working on getting artists to do more exclusives with Apple, according to the New York Post.
Beats executives — now Apple employees — are looking to replicate the kind of success Beyoncé had with her iTunes album, “Beyoncé by Beyoncé,” back in December 2013. Beats already has a bunch of connections with artists including Nicki Minaj, who frequently stars with Beats products in her music videos. Iovine is also good friends with Will.i.am, Pharrell, Kanye West and Gwen Stefani.
The Post notes that the idea of more artists making side deals with streaming services isn't going down well with record label brass.
Notably, the Beats Music promotional relationship with AT&T ended a few months ago and parties are discussing future deals. A source at AT&T said, “They outperformed expectations in terms of the upsell.”
Interestingly, a report from last month suggested that Beats Music could get a huge bump as Apple is planning to bundle it with iOS.
