iPhone LTE Speed Test: iPhone 6 vs. iPhone 5s [Video]

We've posted a new video test comparing the LTE speeds of the new iPhone 6 versus the iPhone 5s.

Apple touts the iPhone 6 as having 'Faster LTE' saying, "With faster LTE — up to 150 Mbps — iPhone 6 users can experience faster download and upload speeds for browsing the web, streaming music, making video calls, and more." During the iPhone 6 keynote, Apple SVP Phil Schiller revealed that these speeds are possible through a technology called carrier aggregation. A tear down of the new device reveals that it features the Qualcomm MDM9625M LTE Category 4 modem which offers up to 150 Mbps downlink data rates and 50 Mbps uplink data rates.

To put these claims to the test we searched the city for the spot with the absolute best reception we could find. Testing late at night, when network usage is lower, we were amazed at the speed the iPhone 6 was able to achieve.

* For those interested, these tests were performed with the SpeedTest.net app for iPhone, in the middle of the night, in London, Ontario, Canada, using the Fido mobile phone carrier. The flicker on the iPhone 6 is an app issue which occurs when speeds reach a high level. It's not a video capture issue.

** We were able to consistently reach speeds in the high 90s with the iPhone 6. The absolute highest download speed we were able to obtain was 111 Mbps. I'm confident that if the conditions were optimal we could have obtained even higher speeds.
