Apple today announced the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus with Retina HD displays, NFC, improved optics, and much more. The new iPhones feature an A8 processor, with 1334 x 750 (4.7-inch) and 1920 x 1080 (5.5-inch) resolution displays, as well as a new M8 coprocessor. They also have sport a precision unibody enclosure of anodized aluminum that conforms seamlessly with the shaped glass of the display, resulting in a completely smooth and continuous surface. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are engineered to be the thinnest yet, delivering a bigger display in a design that is still comfortable to hold and easy to use.
The new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones include: the Apple-designed A8 chip with second generation 64-bit desktop-class architecture for blazing fast performance and power efficiency; advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras; ultrafast wireless technologies; and Apple Pay, an easier way to simply and securely make payments with just the touch of a finger. Both models include iOS 8, the latest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, featuring a simpler, faster and more intuitive user experience with new Messages and Photos features, QuickType keyboard, a new Health app, Family Sharing and iCloud Drive.
“iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the biggest advancements in iPhone history,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The iPhone is the most loved smartphone in the world with the highest customer satisfaction in the industry and we are making it much better in every way. Only Apple can combine the best hardware, software and services at this unprecedented level and we think customers are going to love it.”
For the first time iPhone is available in two new sizes: iPhone 6 features a stunning 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 1334 x 750 resolution, providing 38 percent more viewing area than iPhone 5s, while iPhone 6 Plus features an even bigger 5.5-inch Retina HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, providing 88 percent more viewing area and nearly three times the pixels than iPhone 5s. The Retina HD displays offer advanced technologies including higher contrast for deeper blacks and dual-domain pixels for more accurate colors at wider viewing angles.
With second generation 64-bit desktop-class architecture, the all-new A8 chip offers faster performance and is more energy efficient, delivering higher sustained performance with great battery life. With Metal, a new graphics technology in iOS 8, developers can take performance of the A8 chip even further to bring console-class 3D games to iPhone. The A8 chip also includes a new, powerful Apple-designed image signal processor that enables advanced camera and video features.
Both models include the M8 motion coprocessor that gathers motion data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and the new barometer, which senses air pressure to provide relative elevation. The M8 motion coprocessor can continuously measure your motion data, even when the device is asleep, saving battery life for fitness apps that use the sensors all day. With iOS 8, motion data from M8 appears in the Health app so you can see how many flights of stairs you've climbed, or how far you've walked or run. Developers can use CoreMotion APIs that take advantage of M8 and HealthKit to create apps that help you take better care of your health and fitness.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus introduce Apple Pay, an easy way to securely pay for physical goods and services in stores or apps with just the touch of a finger. Users can pay securely and conveniently in stores by simply holding the phone near the contactless reader while keeping a finger on Touch ID; there is no need to unlock your iPhone or launch an app. With Apple Pay, you can also make one-touch purchases within apps, without having to enter credit card or shipping information. All payment information is kept private, encrypted and stored securely in the Secure Element, a chip inside the new iPhones.
The iSight camera gets even better with a new sensor featuring Focus Pixels for faster autofocus, making it easier to quickly capture any moment. iPhone 6 Plus users will also benefit from optical image stabilization technology that compensates for hand shake in low light and works with iOS 8 to reduce subject motion. High-definition video on iPhone improves with faster frame rates up to 60fps for 1080p video and 240fps for slo-mo, as well as continuous autofocus, cinematic video stabilization and time-lapse video. The FaceTime HD camera now captures over 80 percent more light with a new sensor, larger f/2.2 aperture and advanced new features including burst mode and HDR video.
With faster LTE download speeds of up to 150 Mbps, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users can browse, download and stream content faster. The new iPhones also support high-quality voice calls over LTE (VoLTE) as well as Wi-Fi calling. With support for up to 20 LTE wireless bands—more than any other smartphone in the world—the new models make it easier to experience high-speed networks around the world. Both iPhones also include 802.11ac Wi-Fi with speeds up to 433 Mbps and Bluetooth 4.0.

Yes. The screen tests prove it's sapphire and one article said the 6 prevents water entering the 6, so maybe it will be waterproof, but there is liquipel to do that to any phone.
I think Apple is under pressure of shareholders to release bigger screen iPhones. If you would have noticed Jonathan Ive's video was not there for iPhone but Apple Watch only. I think shareholders are killing the innovation of Apple. Being an Apple developer we see a lot of changes in the inside, and the software side. But the design in simply ugly of iPhone. Apple Watch is definitely stunning. I hope Apple stop listening to shareholders and do what they are good at "INNOVATION".
i am 100% in your boat, just look in the http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/ it is a joke what they did last 2 years, the only really upgrade done are the Fingerprint and the 64bit processor, the rest they are floating behind the market trend ... just the opusite what Jobs did, he created the inovation ... if you go back to Apple after they fire Jobs back in the 80's, todays they are driving exactly the same road to the product line caos as they had when Jobs went back on the 90's. that direnction almost kill them and now they are back on the same road.
i have been using only iphone since its launch in 2007 but now i m a lot confused n little disappointed. i thinking the iphone6 is amazing. but my problem is that apple should have kept both the fone identical n just bumped the screen size n let people choose.i prefer 4.7. 'plus' is just too big for me. but i want the higher resolution. i dont care about the 'full HD' crap n all but atleast give both the fone 401 ppi. i want the 4.7 inch screen but will have to take 5.5plus cause it gives more bang to mu bucks:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
Apple continues the down curve, they will fall completely, the lost the focus and the leadership. it is pity, but as i am saying already since the Marverics, 5s launches, the ideas are simple vanished ... they even did one page where they compare the 5s, 6 and 6 plus, it is a shame NOTHIS BETTER, NO NEW ONE MORE THING!!! besides the screen size NOTHING ABSOLUTE NOTHING. and size matters for you cares ... i will not change my jeans just because someone wants to sell me a brick. looks i have to take a very good care of my 5s, it just has to hold a couple of years
It's your perspectives. Nothing was ever vanished from the last release. Apple doesn't force us to upgrade to the newer models, the newer the iPhones come out the cheaper the old ones, still making it more simpler to upgrade to almost anything for iOS and their products. It's a shame you didn't compare one to 5s but instead brag about how same it is when more space adds more things. Your gimmicks are like saying wii u is the same as wii but can't smell the coffee to understand the difference. Besides the screen says HD. If you don't want the iPhone 6 then what sense does it make about apple losing it's vision if you're happy with my 5s. I sure am since I own one but mocking the company that made what you likes
i live a democratic country, which allows me criticyze and to write my ideas, i dont do it to conquer other ones. if you say the 1 hour of Keynote for elevating the great update, bigger brick and HD screen, is your expatation, then keep it rolling... my expactations were bigger than a bigger brick and a Barometer!!! the one more thing that i used to have was bigger than what Apple has shown the last 2 years. now comes the next great update the os x yosemite that will bring so much new futures that i can not find them ............ you shoud be a newb by Apple to expect so nothing from a update.
Who wants a 8Gb iPhone? Lol and plus having iOS 8 on the phone as well you'll only have around 5-6GB left. I highly bet if apple did make a iPhone 6 8GB model it would sell the less because it's not able to Cary as much data; plus apps are getting bigger in size. Just saying.
Ha ha ha so now big phones are good apple fans what happened to perfet screen size apple better get with the program if th3y want does stocks to go up.Apple watch is not that great admite.
So if ordering starts on Friday, Sept 12 that probably would mean 3am Eastern Time as in previous years. Since I want the larger one I guess I'd better stay up late on Thursday night/Fri morning to get my order in. For me the biggest reason aside from the larger screen is the larger storage capacity. My 64 gig phone is always stuffed to the gills and short on space, whereas my i pad mini with 128 has always been comfortably ample. The larger phone will be a lot closer in size to my ipad, such that maybe my next ipad will be that really big one rumored to be coming out next year. Too bad no sapphire glass. I hate having to use those screen protectors that keep peeling up all the time. But oh well. It's not like anyone else makes a phone with any better kind of glass.
