iPad Air 2 to Get Anti-Reflective Laminated Display, Gold Color Option?

Apple will unveil a new iPad Air 2 with a anti-reflective laminated display, Touch ID, and a gold color option at its September 9th event, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. It's also said that the iPad mini with Retina Display could gain Touch ID Support, notes MacRumors.

In light of limited development resources and the fact that iPad Air contributes more to Apple’s sales and earnings than iPad mini, we think that only iPad Air 2 will see a major upgrade in specs this year, including anti-reflective coating for the cover lens, full lamination for the touch panel, a gold-colored metal casing, an A8 processor, Touch ID/ fingerprint recognition and an 8-megapixel rear camera. iPad mini may be upgraded with fingerprint recognition, if any.

A recent Digitimes report said that suppliers are ramping up production of components for a new iPad Air that will be thinner and feature an improved Touch ID fingerprint sensor. It's possible that the change in thickness could be due to the laminated display.

Kuo says the anti-reflective display and full lamination could delay the iPad Air 2's availability until October.
