Foursquare announced today that it will move check-ins out of its main app to Swarm and unveiled a totally new app and new logo.
Starting tomorrow all check-ins will be moved to Swarm. Past check-ins, friends, and photos will automatically be available in the app. More for information on Swarm or to download it, click here. You will need to have it installed to keep checking in.
Foursquare has also changed its logo from the check-in checkmark to a mix of a map pin and a superhero emblem.
You will see the new logo when you open the new Foursquare. The company says no two people will have the same experience with the app. After teaching Foursquare a few things about you such as your tastes, the experts you follow, and your area - the app will become personalized.
This is the beginning of the ‘personalized local search’ future we’ve been talking about since we started Foursquare. It’s been built with the help of our amazing 50,000,000-strong community, with all your tips, check-ins, photos, and the smarts we layered on top of that. Those of you have been with us since the beginning, your check-ins and history will continue to help shape your recommendations. For those of you giving us a try for the first time – you still get all the benefits of a better way to explore any neighborhood, no check-ins required.
If you use both Swarm and Foursquare, they work seamlessly together. On the left, a venue page for a person who only uses Foursquare. On the right, there is a check-in button if you have Swarm installed.
Foursquare says the new version of its app will be here really soon. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
