Sapphire Display Exclusive to 5.5-Inch iPhone 6, Apple Struggles With iWatch Power Issues?

The iWatch and both sizes of the iPhone 6 will reportedly be announced at the end of the third quarter of 2014, according to UDN.

Contradicting an earlier report, UDN says that Apple's yield of sapphire crystal is low and the limited supply means that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will feature a Gorilla Glass display. The main screen suppliers are allegedly LGD and JDI and Apple is said to expect shipments of 60 million units (likely in 2014).

Notably, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 is still set to get a sapphire crystal display, according to the report. It will be made in limited quantities which would result in shortages during 2014.

Looking at the iWatch, the report says Apple has constantly pushed back its release because it failed to meet company expectations.

One of Apple goals with the iWatch is for the smartwatch’s display to draw almost no power when in standby, but this has proven to be a big challenge.

As we've heard before the iWatch is expected to have a 1.3-inch to 1.6-inch display, supplied by LG. Apple is also predicted to use LG Chem’s stepped battery for the device.
