Geohot, a well known hacker behind several jailbreaks of the iPhone, today released 'towelroot' to root the Samsung Galaxy S5 and other Android devices.
Back in December, a leaked audio recording revealed that Geohot had been looking to sell his jailbreak of iOS 7 for $350,000. In March, Geohot won $150,000 for finding ChromeOS exploits.
Geohot says that towelroot definitely supports AT&T Galaxy S5, Verizon Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4 Active, and the Google Nexus 5. He notes that the AT&T/Verizon Galaxy Note 3 are also supported but might 'have some troubles at the door'. For those with other devices, Geohot says that towelroot should support all Android phone with a kernel build date before June 3.
To install, navigate to http://www.towelroot.com, click the lambda, install the apk, and run towelroot.
It's unclear if Geohot is also working on a jailbreak of iOS 7.1.1 or iOS 8; however, there already have been several jailbreaks demonstrated. Those of you waiting for news on a release can follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
Hello i appreciate the way you root your android device. But i'm concerned about the safeness of the phone and how user friendly is it. Being an android user it would be good if you guys use search4roots for rooting.
Used it on my Verizon Note 3 android 4.4.2 Baseband Version N900VVRUCNC4 and it worked great. Thanks Geohot
Kernel version on my phone is 3.4.0 dated April 28 2014
Great and super easy process to root your device. Thanks to iClarified for their hard work. Just wish they'd clean up the comment section with junk users.
Geohotz, great work! You helped me jailbroke my first iPhone 2G circa 2007 and now my Nexus 7 2013_Confirmed. Thank you.
Yes, grammar was bad too. I'm referring the the attempted swear word. If you are going to swear at least do it! Bitch was once considered a taboo when directed towards a woman but he managed to get that right.
