iPhone 6 to Feature NFC, Wireless Charging, Faster LTE, Much Bigger Screen?

The iPhone 6 will reportedly include support for near field communication (NFC), wireless charging, a faster LTE radio, and a much bigger screen, according to VentureBeat.

A source 'close to the situation' told the site that the iPhone 6 is nearing completion and is now being tested for durability, speed, and network performance.

Although Apple held back on NFC in the past, the company is reportedly ready to pull the trigger now. It's unclear if Apple aligned itself with the ISIS wireless payments standard or whether it will introduce its own mobile payments standard.

While the current iPhone contains a Category 4 LTE radio capable of speeds up to 150 Mbps, the new iPhone 6 is said to contain a Category 6 LTE radio which is capable of speeds up to 300 Mbps.

Apple is also planning to add wireless charging capabilities to the iPhone 6. There are two main competing standards, the Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) and the Power Matters Alliance (PMA). Recently, they agreed to make sure that if a device works on one standard, that it will work on the other. Apple is apparently ready to commit to a standard; however, no word yet on which one it is. The source said that the iPhone 6 includes a surface under the shell that connects to an inductive charging surface for energy transfer.

Finally, as widely expected, the iPhone 6 is said to feature a significantly larger screen and a smaller bezel than previous devices.

It may utilize a pixel-tripling mode (3x):

This would triple the “base resolution” of 568 x 320 (1,136 x 640 is twice this), resulting in a 1,704 x 960 resolution for the Apple iPhone 6. This would essentially increase the current resolution of 1,136 x 640 by 150 percent, and would keep the same 16:9 screen ratio found on the iPhone 5, 5s, and 5c. On a possible 4.7-inch screen, the ppi would be 416; on a 5.5-inch, 356 ppi.

Earlier today, several photos of what allegedly is the rear shell of the new smartphone leaked online. You can check them out here.

While these features are said to be part of the current iPhone 6 design, Apple could make last minute changes before launch. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
