Unsurprisingly, PayPal is already working on ways to bring Touch ID to its iOS apps (via BusinessInsider), after Apple announced the ability for developers to do so at its WWDC Keynote Monday.
Yesterday, a team of PayPal developers attended a session on Touch ID, Apple's fingerprint-scanning system, at the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, a PayPal source told us.
"It seems to be a fairly easy API to use, but we're still kicking the tires," the PayPal source tells us.
With Touch ID, we could see the end of passwords for mobile apps, as they could utilize Apple's fingerprint sensor that ships with iPhone 5s. It is rumored that all future iOS devices will also gain Touch ID going forward.
Currently Touch ID can only be used for unlocking the device and purchasing content through the iTunes Store. However, that will all change in iOS 8 when developers have a way to utilize a person's fingerprint as a password.
Touch ID can push the way for mobile payments, and Apple is rumored to be working on a system of its own, however it could take a couple years before they begin to roll it out.
