Apple has added some features in iOS 8 that makes using Mail and Safari easier than ever.

Mail:
There are now gestures that can be used to easily flag, delete, trash, mark messages unread, or mark messages read.

Here's how it works. A short swipe to the left reveals three buttons: a gray 'More' button, an orange 'Flag' button, and a red 'Delete' button. Tapping the Delete or Flag button will perform the associated action. Tapping the 'More' button reveals a UIPopupOver menu with buttons to 'Reply All, 'Forward', 'Flag', 'Mark as Unread', 'Move to Junk', 'Move Message...', and 'Notify Me'. A long swipe to the left will delete a message.

You can also short swipe to the right to reveal a 'Mark as Unread' or 'Mark as Read' button, depending on the status of the message. A long swipe to the right will perform the action without requiring a tap of the button.

When composing an email you can now swipe it down to the bottom of the screen, letting you get access to your email for looking up information. You can then tap the bar at the bottom of the screen to bring the draft back up.

Finally, Mail recognizes reservations, flight confirmation, and phone numbers and pops up a notification. You can tap to add an event to your calendar or a phone number to your contacts.

Safari:
iOS 8 brings the Tab view from the iPhone to the iPad letting you see open web pages, with tabs from the same site grouped together. You can even see tabs that are open on your other devices.

There's also a new Sidebar that slides out to reveal your bookmarks, Reading List, and Shared Links.
