Apple is reportedly preparing to bring HD Audio playback for iOS 8, as well as a new version of its in-ear headphones and an updated lightning connector, according to a report from Mac Otakara.

Currently, the music app in iOS 7 cannot handle high-quality 24-bit audio files with a sampling frequency above 48kHz, therefore a third-party application is required to play any higher-quality files, however playback is still limited to the hardware. Apple is also reportedly rolling out an upgrade lightning connector that would allow high-definiton playback for audio accessories.

In addition, Apple will also be rolling out an update to his In-Ear headphones that currently sell for $79 at its online store. The premium headphones have not been updated since 2008 so it is due for a refresh. No word if Apple plans to upgrade the Earpods that ship with the iPhone.

iOS 8 will be unveiled at WWDC, and with this latest news, as well as the rumored Beats acquisition, we could see a heavy focus on music quality come June.
