Microsoft demoed a concept for Windows in the Car at its developer conference this week.

Similar to CarPlay, Microsoft is working on a brought-in device approach to in-vehicle-infotainment systems. Users will be able to connect their smartphone to the car and view a projection of the device on the vehicle's display via the Mirrorlink standard.

On the start page you can see the current speed limit for the road you're on, large buttons for common tasks (tiles), mute, view, search and settings buttons, as well as tabs, time, temperature, cell signal and your device's battery life across the top. You can pin common tasks to the start page and swipe between pages.

Tapping the additional tabs at the top provides access to the interfaces for Maps, Phone, Music, and HVAC.
