Apple will reportedly launch a new Apple TV with 'significantly redesigned' hardware 'any week now', according to the Financial Times.
One source familiar with Apple’s plans has told the FT that Apple is likely to introduce a new TV peripheral – but not a full TV set – before its June developer conference, as has been previously reported elsewhere. The significantly redesigned hardware will include greater support for video games, already a popular pastime on its iPhones and iPads, as well as other new features which could include bringing its App Store to the TV set for the first time.
The release, which was delayed from the end of last year, could come “any week now”, this source said.
The new device is said to have a faster processor than the previous version and an upgraded interface to make it easier for customers to navigate between TV shows, movies and other online content. Recent reports have also suggested that it will sport new content, gaming capabilities, AirPort Express functionality, and even a cable box feature.
Adding to the rumors of an imminent update, Apple just launched a promotion offering a free $25 iTunes Card alongside the purchase of a new Apple TV.
