Apple Posts Job Listings for New Sapphire Plant in Arizona

Apple has posted a trio of job listings in Mesa, Arizona, the location of its new Sapphire plant run by GT Advanced Technologies.

The deal with GT Advanced Technologies is said to boost production capacity allowing the company to produce enough sapphire material to make 5-inch sapphire screen covers for 33.79-50.56 million iPhones per year.

Apple is hiring for a Manufacturing Design Engineer- Mechanical Enclosures, Mechanical Supplier Quality Engineer, and Facilities Manager.

The iPod/iPhone Manufacturing Design Engineer is accountable for driving the development of key mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple’s worldwide supply base. In this highly visible hands-on role as the expert technical member of the Manufacturing Design Team you will have direct frequent communication and collaboration with Apple Industrial Design, Product Design, Manufacturing Design partners and worldwide suppliers.

Currently, sapphire is used to protect the camera and Touch ID sensor on the iPhone. It's unclear if Apple intends to use facility to create sapphire for the iPhone display or an iWatch.
