Early benchmarks of the new Retina Display iPad mini are returning scores 5x better than the original.

A couple results for the new iPad have surfaced in the Geekbench browser scoring around 1398 for single-core performance and 2528 for multi-core performance. Compare that to 261 and 493 for the first generation iPad mini.

The Retina Display iPad mini went on sale at midnight last night without any prior announcement. It's believed that supplies of the device are severely constrained.
