Google's smartwatch is reportedly in late-stage development and the company is in talks to begin mass production, according to the WSJ.
The new device, which will run on Android, will be integrated with Google Now, the company's intelligent personal assistant that can answer questions, make recommendations and predict what information users need based on what they are doing, a person familiar with the situation said. Google has also been working to reduce power consumption on the smartwatch so it won't require frequent battery charges, the person said.
According to the site's sources, the device could be ready for mass production within months. Google is reportedly aiming to improve on the usefulness and battery life of current smartwatch devices. In May, a report alleged that the device featured an interface similar to Google Glass and was manufactured by Motorola. Notably, in August, Google confirmed the acquisition of WIMM Labs, a company that made an Android-powered smartwatch. It's assumed that the company will use technology from WIMM Labs in its own device.
Samsung and Sony have both released smartwatch devices; however, neither has gained serious market traction. Apple is rumored to be working on an iWatch as well; however, it's not expected to arrive until late 2014.
