Apple has pulled the Apple TV 6.0 firmware update from Software Update due to problems with the build, reports 9to5Mac.
After Apple TV 6.0 was released on Friday with iTunes Radio and other enhancements, there were many reports of botched updates that required the user to restore their Apple TV. In some particular instances, Apple TVs have also been permanently bricked or they lost the content on the device during the update. Other devices could not download any internet content even when an internet connection was connected.
We'd didn't have any issues updating but you may want to hold off for a while. If you want to try a direct restore via iTunes, here are the Apple TV Firmware Download Links.
Why in the hell do I need this update? when my TV2 is on 5.02?
Hell no!
I dont give about the music.
I didnt buy it to listen to the music i bought it to watch movies.
I have an earlier ATV3 and mine updated just fine I had several reboots at stage 2 which seemed unnormal but other than that it upgraded and worked fine
lol IOS7 sucks, Updates don't work, fingerprint scanner can be hacked with a picture of a fingerprint and Mavericks is destroy the Mac. lol Apple is now just ripping the consumer off !!!
I have two ATV3 devices, one older (first version) and one newer (second version of the ATV3 hardware). The newer one updated ok, the older one had trouble initiating the update (I have tried several times until it finally worked) it didn't get to the stage two of the update, I have to restore via iTunes!!! I think it must have something to do with the hardware revision!!!
I have 2 Apple TVs gen 2. One was updated flawlessly. The other I had to restore 3 times, received the error 1611.
For those with this issue, it worked unplugging from my Mac and from the power and then doing the restore once more. Then it worked.
I had no issues to upgrade my ATV3. Just note to get the JB for it so that I can run XBMC. Once I can run XBMC on my ATV3 then I can throw the last non Apple things out of my house! I am looking forward to that moment.
