Apple is in talks with NTT DoCoMo, Japan's largest mobile carrier, to sell the iPhone, reports Bloomberg. Rivals KDDI and SoftBank already sell the popular smartphone.
Chief Financial Officer Kazuto Tsubouchi said there are compelling reasons for Apple and his company to reach an agreement, according to an interview published in SankeiBiz. For Apple, it doesn’t make business sense not to allow Japan’s largest wireless carrier to sell the iPhone, while DoCoMo wants to be able to sell most popular handsets, Sankei said.
No deal has been reached yet; however, Apple is looking to expand its market share and DoCoMo has had to deal with smaller rivals who do carry the popular handset.
DoCoMo shares rose 2.1% on the news while KDDI fell 2% and SoftBank fell 0.5%.
