Apple has acquired Embark, a transit app company with ten different location based apps in the App Store.
Jessica E. Lessin reported the news on her blog saying, "We don’t know how much Apple paid for the several-person team it acquired very recently. But we heard from people knowledgeable about the deal that the company plans to directly integrate Embark’s technology into Apple Maps."
Embark's iOS apps are still available for download; however, it's Android apps are not.
Apple confirmed the deal to Lessin and said, "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans."
The company has purchased other Maps and Transit related companies recently including Hopstop and Locationary.
