Apple will be expanding its USB power adapter Take back program to countries beyond the United States and China. The initiative is designed help remove counterfeit chargers off the market that can in some cases cause death or damage your device.
The program officially begins August 16 in the United States and started August 9 in China. The support page has also recently been updated to indicate that that Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom will also be participating in the program.
The trade in program will end October 18, and all users need to do is bring in any suspected charger in to any Apple Retail Store to dispose of it properly. You will need to bring in a iPhone, iPad or iPod for serial number validation. You can buy a new charger for a discounted price of $10 ($9 cheaper than the usual $19).
