Woz: Apple is Seeking the Next Big Direction

Posted July 5, 2013 at 6:49pm by iClarified
Apple is in a reported 'waiting period' as the company seeks its 'next big direction,' the company's co-founder Steve Wozniak said Thursday.

Speaking to a forum in Mexico City, Wozniak strongly believes that Apple is still a great company with its own culture -- even without Steve Jobs.

"I think Apple is in one of these waiting periods waiting for the next big direction," he said.

"You can't expect a whole new incredible revolution of a category of existing consumer electronics , you can't expect that every year," he added. "If you could have one every year it would be quite a surprise."

Perhaps wearables such as the iWatch could be the 'next big direction' -- something that excites Wozniak as well.

"I think, oh my gosh, I just wish I had the old iPhone right here on my wrist and I wish I could ask it questions like a new Siri or tell it to play certain music," Wozniak exclaimed.

After Reading all the post here ,I now know that their are a bunch of people that likes to spinout what they blindly call facts about was, you need to go back and do some research to learn what an important contribution he made the computers you tote around and user every day was first put together by wiz. He by no means was a small player, He was the engineer and jobs was the sails man steve wanted a company and woz wanted to build and design computers ,So go back to school before you say something like woz had a small part he played an externally major rool.

Every company in existence is "seeking the next big thing". Unfortunately, it doesn't just 'appear'. It results from new ideas. Something that Apple doesn't seem to be generating since Steve Jobs died. The fact the new iOS icons were generated by their marketing department shows just how far they've fallen in this regard. I'm hoping they can recover, but since several companies are all scrambling to come up with the first smart watch, it'll be a close call to who comes out with it first.

You're right in terms of it being a close call as to who will come out with it first, but I think that Apple's plan, if any, is to come up with something more than just a smart watch. After all, if that was the plan, they could have had an iPod Nano type device long ago with a few more features. I think what Apple will do with the watch concept (if anything) is an integration of its whole ecosystem: iPhone, iPad, Mac, iTV (if any) and now the car integration features. That's what I think is exciting, not so much a stand-alone product with clearly limited capabilities (who wants to read an email on a watch-sized device), but one wearable device that interconnects all the other devices. But then again who knows, I could be wrong. One thing's for sure, if it's just an Apple version of the Pebble, it'd be crap.

I wish people would stop asking Woz's opinion on stuff. He was a good engineer at one point in time, that's all. His opinion on business or future trends or anything Apple is as valuable as your average blue collar workers opinion on those topics. On top of that, continually asking for his opinion is feeding his already over inflated sense of self importance(read his book if you don't believe me).

How can you think that he was only a good engineer?? he practically invented portable computers, a big leap in technology, he wasn't just good he is a genius, and of course he can have an opinion on what's coming next, i repeat he made a freaking room size computer into a box that could be carried by an average lad. If he over inflates himself in his book, I would still say he is a humble man. He changed the world. Is that something that just a GOOD engineer does?--

He's nowhere close to being a billionaire. He's worth about 100 million or so.
