Just after the French site Nowhereelse.fr leaked the iPad 5 schematics, an alleged rear shell of the rumored lower costing iPhone surfaced on the site as well.

While this case could always be for a Chinese clone, the overall template of the shell is very similar to the iPhone 5. We have heard rumors the the lower costing iPhone could come in multiple colors including green.

I personally think this pic and the other pics of the different colors are fake. For one the colors seem off, and second if they are real why isn't the designed by apple printed on the bottom? Even though the so called low cost iPhone will possibly be made of not plastic, but POLYCARBONATE, which are two different materials, I see apple making out of aluminum like the iPod touch. Or maybe a mixture of both. We'll just have to wait and see.

How dare apple come out with a plastic backed phone. We want class or metal backed phones so we can pay crazy money for plastic cases.

They were made of polycarbonate not plastic. They're two different materials.

Well, you're defending a company who's founder and previous CEO was a self proclamed shameless idea theif.. apple didn't invent the mp3 player, smartphone or tablet they just remade other people's work. Do some research and you'll find that the design for the ipod was stolen from Braun among other things.. They lied about not making a smaller ipad and not making a cheap iphone. They also said they won't make a bigger iphone because the current size is "perfect", but we all know its coming anyway. They also wouldn't let retailers cut the price on their iphone because "premium products require a premium price" and now they're on sale everywhere.

Are you new here? Apple has always been doing this. Look at the iPod minis, iPod shuffle. All low cost, are one of the best selling iPods ever.

It's perfectly fine by apple to look at low cost iphone range. Like when first iPod was out for first 4 years it ruled then can others like Sony creative Sandisk then apple took out iPod mini then nano They need to fuel growth selling older iPhones at lower cost after 2 years of launch is not what I would like. They can very well differentiate the iphone 5s with Low cost new iphone and eat in android and Windows's market

This only dilutes the apple brand! Can't believe I'm saying this but I'm starting to lose respect for the company. The only problem is there is no other viable option. Ill die before I buy a android or windows phone.

When they came out with different/less expensive iPod models did it dilute the brand or ruin their reputation? How about the iPads or macs? Did it? It just expanded their products they offered. It doesn't mean apples going to become a cheap crappy copycat brand like Samsung and start making crap products. You'd do the same thing if it was your business.

My only thoughts on a lower cost iPhone are that Apple would want everyone in the world (including those who cannot afford a normal iPhone) to be able to say 'I have an iPhone.' This would possibly decimate other cheaper mobile phone brands. Obviously, it would depend on 'how cheap' these are.

Then they should keep their mouths shut when they are about to say they will never make a "cheaper" or "smaller" version of one of their products. Then they do a 180 and become hypocrites. Greed prevails.
