A new report from TechNews predicts that the iPhone 5S will feature a sapphire crystal capacitive touch home button with integrated fingerprint scanner.
CultofMac relays the report from the Taiwanese site.
They insist Apple will employ a capacitive touch home button for the first time with the iPhone 5S, eliminating one of the most unreliable components in an iOS device (the physical home button has a tendency to fail after long periods of use). Not only will it be a capacitive touch button, but it’ll also incorporate a fingerprint sensor, the sources claim.
Sapphire crystal is highly transparent and extraordinarily scratch-resistant making it a good choice to cover the fingerprint scanner. Apple currently uses sapphire crystal to cover the lens of the iPhone's camera to prevent any scratches from ruining your photos.
A fingerprint scanner has been predicted for the iPhone 5S repeatedly based on Apple's acquisition of AuthenTec.
TechNews says that the device will arrive in August or September, alongside a plastic low-cost iPhone.
