ABC will roll out live streaming of all its TV programming to iPhones and iPads beginning this week, reports the New York Times.
Viewers will be able to carry “Good Morning America” with them as they move around the house in the morning, or tune into a weekend basketball game while out with friends. The live stream will work anywhere in a local market, the same way an old-fashioned TV antenna would.
The new feature will first rollout to users in New York and Philadelphia who will be able to live stream all the programming from ABC's local stations. Later this summer, live streaming will be available to another six cities where ABC owns stations. The network has also signed a deal with Hearst Television to bring the feature to an additional 13 markets including Boston and Pittsburgh in the coming months. Talks with companies that own their more than 200 affiliates is also ongoing.
A new app called Watch ABC will be released to access the feature. It should be available in the App Store soon.
