Microsoft is reportedly preparing to announce a new 7 to 9-inch second generation Surface tablet at its Build Developer Conference. The event takes place June 26-28th, 2013.
DigiTimes sources say that the company has already received components for 1-1.5 million Intel based units since the beginning of the year.
Since Microsoft only achieved sales of 1.5 million units for its first-generation Surface tablets (one million Surface RT and 500,000 Surface Pro), only half of its original expectations of 3-4 million units, the company is taking a cautious attitude over promotions for its second-generation models.
Microsoft is also rolling out the tablet to more countries in an effort to increase sales.
Surface RT will reportedly become available in Mexico at the end of the month and in Korea and Thailand in June. Surface Pro will start selling in Australia and Austria this month and in Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, and Thailand next month.
