Production of Apple's next generation iPhone may be delayed due to issues with integration of a new fingerprint sensor, reports Reuters.

Sources in Japan and Taiwan tell the site that they initially expected mass production to begin in June; however, that date may now have slipped further away.

The phone, widely referred to as the iPhone 5S, is expected to include new features such as a fingerprint sensor. A supply chain source in Taiwan said Apple was trying to find a coating material that did not interfere with the fingerprint sensor, and this may be causing a delay.

It's also said that Apple is developing a cheaper model of the iPhone which could appeal to low income buyers in emerging markets.

A supplier source in Japan told Reuters small-scale production of display panels will begin in May, ramping up to mass production in June. Both phones will use the same 4-inch screen, but the cheaper version will probably not include the new fingerprint technology and sport a cheaper plastic casing, the sources said.

This aligns with a recent report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who adjusted previous estimates to suggest the iPhone 5S would ship at earliest in September.

Ive been racking my brain trying to think of what Apple has in store for us this year. Ya it's been said or "predicted" many times before over the years. And I know what I'm thinking might just be a pipe dream, but has anyone thought that They might still come out with a 5S, but with only a few minor upgrades. Like adding the A7 processor, 10 mp camera (or ever making the 8 better), a few additional colors, and maybe starting the price at $179 instead of $199? Also knowing that they're possibly losing more and more customers to android, for the lack of a larger screened iPhone. Just like they did with people buying smaller and cheaper tablets instead of the iPad, which in turn they started producing the iPad mini. Ok. Now heres the kicker!! What if they went all out this year and came out with the 5S with the specs I previously mentioned and a larger screened "iPhone Pro/ 5X" or whatever they would want to call it. Even if it looked almost exactly the same as the iPhone 5/5S design but just with a wider/bigger screen, anywhere from 4.4 to 5 inches, and a larger form factor. And instead of just basically being a larger 5S with the same specs they made it different by adding a new "highest resolution retina display ever made" IGZO Retina display with 400+ ppi, A7X instead of the A7, a 12MP Camera instead of the 8 or 10, added the option for 128 GB, and possibly a special feature the 5S wouldn't have, like the rumored "fingerprint scanner"?! I think this would be killer for enterprise power users alone with everyday users. It wouldn't be too small or to big. The only somewhat downside to this being bigger and having higher specs would be that it more than likely wouldn't be priced starting at $199 for the 16GB. I think it would be in the starting range of $249 to $299 for the 16GB. Now If this would actually happen I think the industry and people would go crazy. And their sales and stock price would go through the roof. In my opinion it would be just like when the first iPhone was introduced!!! I know I've been rambling, but what does everyone think about this?? Look at all the other products they sell. Macs, iPods, and the iPads. They all come in different sizes/ form factors, colors and are available with different specs. Why not do the same with the iPhone. I mean it's bound to happen eventually. Even though sales are still high with the iPhone now I don't think it will last forever with just one size. Come on Apple. Amaze us and blow our minds like you used too. As customers We need something like this to happen. And as a company I think you do too.

HAHAHA good one Mike. I love those users who are always threating apple "im moving to Samsung" "if Apple doesnt do that I'm moving to Android" I dont think Apple really cares and besides if you are planning to move then MOVE 80% of those users are still with iPhone after "threating"

was the fingerprint "killer feature"??? if so that sucks, because it is not, that's old tech, u better come up with something good apple or I will have to leave u :-/ ....

Do we have any other information on what other tech/gadgets it's going to have? I also heard something about multi colour cases in replace of white and black glass.
