Tim Cook Was Against Apple Suing Samsung

Tim Cook was against suing Samsung over its copying of Apple devices, according to a Reuters report published today. In spite of his objections, then CEO Steve Jobs was extremely upset with Samsung and initiated a "thermo-nuclear" legal war against the company.

Tim Cook, Jobs' successor as Apple chief executive, was opposed to suing Samsung in the first place, according to people with knowledge of the matter, largely because of that company's critical role as a supplier of components for the iPhone and the iPad. Apple bought some $8 billion worth of parts from Samsung last year, analysts estimate.

This news is unsurprising as Cook himself has said, "I've always hated litigation, and I continue to hate it."

Apple "wants people to invent their own stuff" and "if we could get to some kind of arrangement where we could be assured that that's the case, I highly prefer to settle versus battle."
