Samsung is reportedly working to develop new hexagon and diamond shaped pixel layouts for its smartphone display panels which would allow resolutions over 440ppi, according to a DigiTimes report.
Its been rumored that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S IV might feature a large 4.99-inch 440ppi Full HD Super AMOLED display. This pixel density is difficult to achieve using the current side-by-side layout.
The panels are likely to be made via a LITI production process, and used in Samsung's reported Galaxy S4, which when released will likely have one of the highest resolution displays on the market, noted the sources.
