Intel will reportedly debut a new Cable TV Set Top Box at CES on January 7th, according to a TechCrunch source.

An inside source at Intel working on the project has told me that a working version (and notably, the first iteration – it will be an evolving product) of the set top box will be finished by and for CES. One feature we heard about could be a real game changer for the digital video recorder experience. Intel is said to be working on the box as part of its plans for a subscription TV service that would combine both traditional channels and streaming content such as Redbox.

The battleground for TV appears to be heating up this year with Samsung showcasing a new television at CES that will feature on-demand movies, apps, and photos. Apple has also been rumored to be working on a revolutionary television but little is known about the company's plans.
