The WSJ is reporting that Apple is working with component suppliers in Asia to test several television set designs.

Officials at some of Apple's suppliers, who declined to be named, said the Cupertino, Calif.-based company has been working on testing a few designs for a large-screen high-resolution TV.

Two people said Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. which assembles the iPhone and iPad, has been collaborating with Japan's Sharp on the design of the new television.

"It isn't a formal project yet. It is still in the early stage of testing," said one of the people.

Unfortunately, this does not mean an Apple television is imminent as the company has been testing various TV prototypes for a number of years; however, Tim Cook did recently reiterate that television is an area of "intense interest".

When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years,” Cook told Brian Williams of NBC Rock Center,. “It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”
