Apple Has Made Only One Political Contribution in 2012

Apple has only made one political contribution in the entire year of 2012, so far.

According to their political contribution report for the calendar year of 2012, Apple made a one time donation to the "Support our Cupertino District Schools" campaign in May.

On May 2, 2012 Apple made a $9,000 contribution to the "Support our Cupertino District Schools" campaign in support of Measure H. If passed this measure would create a $220 million school facilities bond fund to modernize classrooms and bathrooms, upgrade earthquake and fire safety systems, replace aging infrastructure, update science labs and technology systems, and build additional classrooms for the growing enrollment of district schools in Cupertino, California, where Apple's headquarters are located.

Apple also began last year to match any donation made by employees to a to a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000 annually.

I Heart Apple -- and Microsoft too!! On the one hand, I would be happy to see big fat progressive-cause donations (like Microsoft). But the higher value, IMHO, is seeing corporations behave like good citizens in their communities. It figures that Apple (being smart and creative, unlike AT&T), isn't out trying to buy an election, but instead focuses their contributions on building up the schools and community they reside in. And then they donate $2.5 million to Hurricane Sandy relief! Excellent corporate citizens! One more reason to love Apple. And, for progressives, love Microsoft too (why choose? Share the love!)

@ all the comenters calling them cheap. The story says: "Apple has only made one political contribution in the entire year of 2012, so far. According to their political contribution report for the calendar year of 2012, Apple made a one time donation to the "Support our Cupertino District Schools" campaign in May." Political contributions are not the same as supporting our community. I am glad that some of the mega corporations are not giving huge sums to change laws and elect politicians.

It would give them a foot in the door to implement more of their macs iPads into schools thus generating interest in apple products at an early age that could translate into sales when the children become adults

My elementary school used to have strictly Macs and this was 12-17 years ago. I don't know how things are these days but from the last time I remembered, I was using PCs in high school.
