Apple is sourcing carbon fiber from a Japanese company, reports Macotakara.
According to my source, some engineer of Apple and Foxconn Technology came on Japanese company, which has carbon production in mid-March, and they requested to develop some sample. I don't have information which is ordered by Apple, source told the number of parts is too large to be called "sample".
Last year it was reported that Apple was looking at carbon fiber for the iPad 2. The company hired Kevin Kenney who spent years development carbon fiber bicycles as the President and CEO at Kestral Bicycles. Another report suggested Apple would use carbon fiber to improve the Wi-Fi sync performance of its devices.
So far the company hasn't used the material but it appears their working on something.
