The first benchmark results for the iPhone 5 have appeared in Geekbench Browser, reports MacRumors.

The device tested was an iPhone 5,2 running iOS 6 with a ARMv7 1.02 GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

The device scored 1601 in the test compared to an average of 629 for the iPhone 4S and 766 for the iPad 3. It also outperformed the Samsung Galaxy S III which scored 1560 in the test.

Update:
It appears that since our article there has been a large number of Galaxy S III owners submitting benchmarks to Geekbench. This has increased the average score for the device to 1628 from 1560. A better comparison should be available this weekend after release of iPhone 5 results in average benchmark results for the new device.
