T-Mobile Kicks Up Its Support for Unlocked iPhones

T-Mobile Kicks Up Its Support for Unlocked iPhones

Posted September 10, 2012 at 4:15pm by iClarified
T-Mobile has been known for providing support and services for unlocked iPhone customers, but it looks like the company plans on doing more.

Starting September 12 (the same day the next generation iPhone will be announced), T-Mobile retail staff will begin training on setting up an iPhone for customers, and each store will have a 4S demo unite on hand. The carrier is also working on iOS versions of their current mobile apps, including T-Mobile myAccount, T-Mobile Visual Voicemail, and T-Mobile TV, which will eventually be available on the AppStore.

Customers with an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile are stuck with 2G EDGE service, unless they are in an area with HSPA+ 1900. T-Mobile is still working on rolling out 1900mhz frequency to more areas, but it is still limited compared to its entire 3G/4G network.

Customers on T-Mobile do have access to the new "truly unlimited" data plan that was just launched last week. Since AT&T and Verizon no longer offer unlimited data plans, Sprint and T-Mobile became the sole providers of this service.

The iPhone has caused the subscriber loss for T-Mobile seen in recent quarters, but perhaps these new measure will help them win over some unlocked iPhone users, as well as their new plan of "Selling Against the iPhone"

Don't believe T-mobile because even their own sim card installed in my unlock iphone they could not make it work at full blast speed not unless you will sign another 24 months contract for I phone use. I brought my iphone with t-mobile sim card the other day in t-mobile store somewhere in roosevelt ave. queens. I asked them why the data is stuck (means keep on turning) and no picture in the display (its been turning for almost 30mins) the guy told me that you have to sign for another contract plan to change the coding (I don't know what it is) so it will work with Iphone. Stay away from T-mobile if you you have unlock i-phone. Better buy a prepaid sim from ATT, Verizon or Sprint but never T-mobile.

I'm using an iPhone 4 on tmobile, and to me, I'd rather have an iPhone stuck with only 2g/edge for now, than any android phone they have. I only had to pay $200 for a factory unlocked iPhone 4

The cost of buying an unlocked phone is fairly prohibitive (around an extra $400). That's a lot to spend for a more limited network without the support the other networks offer.
