Korean Carriers in Talks With Apple to Support 1.8 GHz LTE Frequency?

Korean carriers are reportedly in talks with Apple to support 1.8 GHz LTE frequencies, according to a TNW report.

Officials representing both SK Telecom and KT revealed to the Korea Times that the operators are in talks with Apple to support 1.8GHz LTE frequencies. An unnamed KT executive noted that the company "is in negotiations with Apple to persuade the latter to support KT's 1.8-gigahertz frequency in Korea for the upcoming iPhone."

The site was unable to get official confirmation of the statement from carriers; however, it makes sense that they would want their LTE networks supported by the new iPhone.


Qualcomm is working on a universal LTE chip that will support 7 frequency bands: three below 1GHz, three above 1GHz, and one 2.5 GHz+ frequency. However, its unclear if this chip will be ready in time for this year's iPhone.
