Which iDevices Get Which New iOS 6 Features?

Posted June 12, 2012 at 8:07pm by iClarified
Here's Apple's list of limitations that reveals which devices get which new iOS 6 features. Notably, the iPhone 4 does not get FaceTime over 3G, Flyover, Turn-By-Turn Navigation, or Siri.

The List:
● Flyover and turn-by-turn navigation will be available only on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 or later. Cellular data charges may apply.
● Siri will be available only on iPhone 4S and iPad (3rd generation) and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply.
● Shared Photo Streams requires iOS 6 on iPhone 4 or later or iPad 2 or later, or a Mac computer with OS X Mountain Lion. An up-to-date browser is required for accessing shared photo streams on the web.
● FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4S or iPad (3rd generation) with cellular data capability. Carrier data charges may apply. FaceTime is not available in all countries.
● VIP list and VIP and Flagged smart mailboxes will be available on iPhone 4 or later and iPad 2 or later.
● Offline Reading List will be available on iPhone 4 or later and iPad 2 or later.
Made for iPhone hearing aids require iPhone 4S.

I for one think the Updates not being supported on all devices is really smart. IOS 6 will be released when the new iPhone comes out- so those with the iPhone 3GS and 4 will be 2-3 generations behind forcing those who really want all the features of IOS 6 to upgrade their phone to at least the 4S.

For the first time, i dont't have any reason or will to uptdate my iphone 4 to iOS6. Everything that's new, is not tempting enough. Post Steve Jobs era is disapointing. We now have nokia with a decent software, android has become better, so, i think APPLE will have to be smarter not to lose the race. At this point, APPLE is loosing ground!

Good thing my iphone 4 is jailbroken, I already have Siri and Facetime on 3G. No reason to upgrade. as a matter of fact, if the new iPhone is going to be longer, but not wider, I will move onto Android. I'm sick of waiting once a year for Apple's minuscule updates.

I'll probably do the same thing (even though I have never had an android) if the upcoming iPhone will look like what the rumors have described it. The new maps app is cool, but i'll probably keep using the tom-tom app for directions, FaceTime over 3g... not interested, Facebook integration... I'm more interested in Facebook disintegration. The only thing I really want from iOS 6 is passbook. @ratGT the comments section is so people can post their comments about the topic not for trolling

Whoa dude @ratGT. Stop acting like as though you have Steve job's stuck inside you. You may be a huge apple fanboy and give a rat's ass to people buying other

Just because I have never owned an android it doesn't mean that I have never tried one, If i'm considering it as an alternative is because I have played with them before. I have to agree with you that the plastic cases are a big turn off, but most people hide their iPhones with oversized cases and bumpers anyway so I don't see why they criticize plastic components. I don't see Android as downgrading, I see it as an alternative; and while it is true that there are several android phones out there unsupported is the same with apple. take for example The iPad, it has the same A4 as the iPhone 4 yet it is not being supported; however the 3gs which is inferior is being supported. Sure you can say that there are several versions of android out there but it is equivalent to versions of iOS. I have seen several people using 3.X.X just because iOS 4 slows down their devices or iPhone 4 users with 4.x.x because hey have the same issue with iOS 5, and I'm sure that next year we will see people on iOS 5 because 6 makes everything slower. I like apple and I own some of their products but if they are going to give us the same design this year, I don't see a reason to get the "new iPhone" A downgrade would be if I said that I was going to get something like a blackberry.

A little slap on the wrist to those like me that did not upgrade to the iphone 4s waiting for the next iphone to come out. Anyway by the time ios 6 comes out the next iphone will be just a few months away. No more iPod 3g or iPad ios upgrades

I'm guessing iOS 6 will release within a week of new iphone. Fall probably means early october. Then this won't be as bad since most will likely upgrade. However, many ip4 users are coming out of contract and Apple missed the boat hooking them back on. A teaser or anything would have been smart.

Once again Apple is forcing users to upgrade. Good thing the iPhone 5 will be coming out, just proves that it will be a redesign Becuase they won't have any software to add like iPhone 4s had Siri only
