Apple Wins Ownership of iPhone5.com Domain

Apple has obtained ownership of the iPhone5.com after filing a claim with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), reports TNW.

WIPO recently posted to its website that the domain has been 'Terminated', with the domain owner expected to have relinquished ownership. The iPhone5.com domain is now being held by brand protection agency Corporation Service Company, which may have been used by Apple to take ownership.

The move to take over the iPhone5.com domain was a bit unusual for Apple. Typically, the company files to gain ownership of a domain after launching a product. Of course, there has been speculation that Apple will name its next smartphone the 'iPhone 5'; however, it's unclear if Apple's takeover of the domain adds any weight to that rumor.
