ZDNet has obtained Microsoft's marketing playbook for catching up to the App Store. Windows Phone 7 recently reached over 70,000 applications but it still has a long way to go to reach the App Store's 550,000.

Microsoft also has plans to try to turn the app conversation from "quantity" to "quality," especially on the Android vs. Windows Phone front.
Microsoft is also planning to line up more promotional opportunities for top Windows Phone apps and wants to push towards mainstream pricing rather than premium pricing.
