AT&T is not yet supporting the personal hotspot feature of the new 4G LTE iPad, according to tweets from company representatives.
Nick Thulin asked both carriers if they would offer tethering on the new device.
@ATTCustomerCare will you offer tethering for the new iPad? @NickThulin As of now we are not. If it changes we will tweet it out.
While Verizon didn't flat say it won't offering tethering, it doesn't sound good.
@VZWsupport will you offer the personal hotspot option with the new #iPad? @NickThulin The device is hotspot capable, but no info regarding the plans at this time. Visit bit.ly/xKux1O for updates.
Update: Verizon is now saying that it is in fact supporting the hotspot feature at no additional cost.
The new iPad on the Verizon Wireless network will have the mobile hotspot feature. Our 4G LTE tablets have the mobile hotspot feature and it is included in the tablet data plans so for example, customers who sign up for the $30 for 2GB plan will also have access to the mobile hotspot feature.
Dear all,
to resolve this problem you should complete following steps:
1. Download operators list from iphonediags.apple.com/version.xml
2. Look for most modern profile of your operator (looks like appldnld.appl...xxxx.ipcc)
3. Download this profile (ipcc file)
4. Close iTunes if it's opened and running
5. Open Terminal
6. Put and execute following command: defaults write com.apple.itunes carrier-testing -bool true
7. Close Terminal
8. Connect your new iPad via cable
9. Run iTunes
10. Press and hold option key while clicking "Check for Update"
11. In dialog window point to the downloaded ipcc file (downloaded on step 3)
12. Wait until synchronization will be completed.
13. Disconnect iPad
14. Reboot iPad
15. On the iPad open Settings > General > Network >
16. Switch on the Personal Hotspot setting
17. Personal Hotspot should appear in Settings and should function normally.
18. Enjoy your life!
Good luck!!!
All Apple would have to do is continue to sell their phones to the other networks, then it wouldn't be a monopoly, even though most people would bail to go on Apple's network lol.
Apple should take that 80 billion and start a carrier business and then we could have all our media done by apple instead of cable company's and different carriers with their rediculous data prices and apple would have it all locked up into one package
I would welcome that with open arms. And I'm sure they would hookup with a Voice over IP company instead of charging for minutes for in country calls. They could charge a flat rate of like $60 for data and that would be it. It would be awesome. The problem with companies in my eyes is that all they care about is making more money, they no longer care about the consumer. I understand that companies are in it for the money, but what ever happened to companies actually caring about customer satisfaction instead of just saying deal with it?
