Apple CEO Tim Cook spent quite a bit of time focusing on Apple's charitable contributions during a recent Town Hall meeting for employees, according to The Verge.
Cook said that Apple has donated a total of $50 million to Stanford's hospitals, split into $25 million for a new main building and $25 million for a new children's hospital. Cook also spent quite a bit of time talking about Apple's status as the leading contributor to Project RED, and expressed pride that Apple's given over $50 million to the effort since it started.
Steve Jobs was widely criticized for his lack of philanthropic endeavors. The Apple founder reportedly felt that increasing shareholder value and letting them give to causes they felt strongly about was the right course of action. Cook on the other hand has already instituted a program where Apple will match donations from its employees.
