Geohot, the popular hacker made famous for contributions to the iPhone community and for hacking the Sony Playstation, has quit his job at Facebook, according to BusinessInsider.
The hacker was spotted competing in a hackathon at Backplane, a startup funded by Lady Gaga.
During the hackathon, I got to work with him as he built an app that allows you to see where your Facebook friends are on a map. Aviv Ovadya, a Quora engineer, was also on the team. Ovadya focused on the front end mapping part of the program. Hotz was focused on getting the API info and programming that into location data.
His entry didn't win, it lost out to a group of high school students.
Geohot hasn't been on the iPhone scene since the release of a bootrom exploit called limera1n for the iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, and iPod Touch 4G. A bootrom exploit still hasn't been discovered for the iPhone 4S or iPad 2.
He wanted to spend $500 /:? Are you kidding me? If he would have done something on the iphone scene he would have won for sure not only the contest but our hearts as well. lol
Money talks bs walks - now Geohot realized that he could make more money on Donations than working for FB or Apple or who ever so let me predict that he is going to be back in da scene. PS3 newest FW need JB and a lot other shit to be done too... get busy Geo. I will donate.
bailed? are you kidding me? They need to make a living too. Donation are not consistent income. I bet you would have done the same if you got offered a job at FB or Apple.
you don't work for free why should they.
Who told you donations are not consistent - JB is needed version after version. The more you do the more you get. Also what been wroten donations from one JB can last for while... so not surprised if some of guys are doing pretty nice living out the scene. Gotta highlight that i don't think that wrong - I'm happy to donate too as long the scene stays alive. Welcome back HOTZ!
