Apple will reportedly keep the iPad 2 around and ship a total of 65 million display panels in 2012, reports DigiTimes.
The site says Apple has selected Sharp, LG, and Samsung to supply high resolution display panels for the iPad 3 despite an earlier report from the Electronic Times that said Samsung didn't make the cut.
Apple is said to keep increasing the production of iPad 3 panels from 6-7 million in 1Q2012 to 10 million in Q3. iPad 2 panel shipments have been dropped from 16 million in 3Q2011 to 7-8 million in 1Q2012.
The shipment volume of iPad 2 panels will decrease from 48.0 million units in 2011 to an estimated 25.0 million units in 2012, while an estimated 40.0 million panels for use in the new version of iPad will be supplied in 2012, the sources pointed out.
