Apple's senior research and development executive Dr. Edward H. Frank is touring Israel to investigate the possibility of opening an Apple-run development center, reports Calcalist.
The daily newspaper, who reported yesterday that Apple is in talks to buy flash memory chip maker Anobit for $400-$500 million, says that Frank is meeting with several high tech companies and has already met with Intel.
Numerous other Silicon Valley giants already have research and development centers in the country including Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Yahoo!, eBay and Huawei.
Should the deal to purchase Anobit go through, Apple may also be interested in a few other Israeli startups that specialize in flash storage solutions such as: XtremIO which develops server-based storage systems, its rival Kaminario, and DensBits which specializes in controller based signal processing to improve the operation of flash memory chip processors.
