In recent weeks, Apple has been looking to recruit senior-level executives with backgrounds in Web-based software, according to people familiar with the matter. It has approached at least one prominent Internet entrepreneur since at least earlier this year about a possible position, according to these people, who say the details of the possible job were unclear. The company has also discussed its needs with recruiters, one of the people said.
Apple is said to be shifting its strategy to suit users who don't want their content tied to individual devices but rather have it accessible anywhere, anytime. To do this Apple is looking at building various web apps and has already launched iCloud with web access to Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Find My iPhone, and iWork.
The WSJ source said that Apple doesn't have specific positions in mind, rather it's looking broadly for talent which could be placed in director-level positions and above, including senior executives.
