You Have 30 Days to Purchase AppleCare+ After Buying Your iPhone

Apple has updated its page for AppleCare+ to indicate that you only have 30 days after buying your iPhone to purchase the extended warranty.

Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage and 90 days of telephone technical support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends repair coverage and technical support to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage due to handling, each subject to a $49 service fee.

How to get AppleCare+
● Add it to your shopping cart during the checkout process when you purchase your new iPhone.
● Buy it within 30 days of your iPhone purchase:
- At Apple Retail (requires a Genius Bar appointment, inspection of the iPhone & proof of purchase).
- Or call 1-800-275-2273 (requires proof of purchase).

This does not apply to iPhones purchased in Europe as there is an automatic two year warranty regarding electronic item purchases.

so... that means we could find a way to hack/spoof, purchase from an EU store, then ship? or do they play those fun games on your side of the pond as well? damn I'd love to find a way to pull this off.

Not sure about that. I don't live here, I just work here at the moment. Also the cost would be more expensive I would imagine that if you purchased it in Europe and had your receipt, there is not much anyone could say as it was purchased in Europe.

fee's in the conversion (conversion rate is what right now?) is something I'm not familiar with... but the concept that it was purchased in the EU could (and if not, should) hold the same protection as say an american express purchase. considering the rights are on sales w/i the country rather than citizenship. (I think that sounds like a reasonable statement?) could you imagine non-citizens not having consumer protection? wow that'd be crazy.

@me again, Valid point. Can't really say dude. However, as an American, I purchase in Europe (I'm working here) but when I have a problem, I call Apple in the US. They look up my European purchase and they help me. However, if it was one year and one day, they would say I am out of warranty but the Apple dealer in my country would be obligated to help me for another year. Hope that helps.

1 year warranty with an iPhone worldwide the 2 years that have been referred to here concern consumer law. You can claim within 2 years under the EU's consumer law. Has nothing to to with the warranty. This claim needs to be made against the Seller not the manufacture. Besides that on Europeans Apple Website the following is stated: The AppleCare Protection Plan can be purchased only while your iPhone is still covered under the standard one-year limited warranty. @Jay I hear ya. thanks for that. What I am most interested in (and by most, I mean not so much any more) is the ENTIRE story. Regardless of warranty, there are rights that consumers have. Often times, companies will publish statements that convince consumers of things that are outside of their rights. Ex: this conversation. Apple says it offers, nay- CHARGES for a warranty that must be purchased within a certain amount of time. Yet, the consumer has this protection as a consumer of these specific products from very the beginning. Kinda interesting.

Apple France lost a landmark case regarding this. I guy bought Apple Care and then decided that because of EU consumer laws, he did not need it. He tried to return it but Apple would not give him his money back. He sued and won. The specifics of the law are very simple. If the warranty has run out after a year, the EU stipulates that consumers have an additional year if the fault is a manufacturer defect. My keyboard died at 13 months on my MBP. Apple Europe fixed it for free.
