Singapore will equip new recruits to its military, air force and navy, with iPads.
The defense ministry says it will issue about 8,000 to new recruits from November. More iPads will be issued to other servicemen next year.
"By exploiting the use of popular and current information and communications technology, we are able to harness our advantage of today's technologically savvy servicemen," said Defence chief Neo Kian Hong.
The SAF says it is working with private contractors to design apps for a wide range of functions. Existing uses include the ability to integrate and upload media to their online platform, LEARNet; as well as, the ability to ask their commanders questions through a live messaging system that supports group chat.
