Apple to Release 16-Core Mac Pro in Mid 2011?

Apple is reportedly preparing to release a 16-core Mac Pro in mid-2011, according to 9to5Mac. A 'reliable' source is telling them that Apple has referenced a mid-2011 Mac Pro in multiple internal documents. These documents also say the new desktop computer will be available in 6-core, 8-core, 12-core, and 16-core configurations.

In addition to these specifications, we hear that Apple has already begun the process of assembling product manuals for the new Mac Pro, corroborating previous claims of a late July or early August launch. Our sources could not confirm if the new rack mountable design, which we detailed, will make its way into the 2011 model.

9to5Mac also claims to have seen an email in which an Apple executive states that, "Apple is investing heavily into Mac Pro".

These rumors corroborate a recent report from M.I.C. Gadget that predicts a late July/August release of the Mac Pro with a custom chip never seen before.
