iCloud is the New iTunes, Not the New MobileMe?

Daring Fireball's John Gruber has posted his thoughts on the upcoming iCloud service predicting that it will be more of a replacement to iTunes than MobileMe.

"The italicized sentence that follows is fourth-hand information, at best, and also the sort of thing that many of you might have already guessed based merely on your own hunches and hopes. But here goes:

Don’t think of iCloud as the new MobileMe; think of iCloud as the new iTunes."

Gruber suggests that the new iCloud service may finally free iDevices from the need to connect to iTunes for setup or syncing. This would definitely improve the experience for both new buyers and existing users. With the ability to synchronize files and purchases iCloud could obviate much of MobileMe's appeal.

Gruber also lists a few features that he hopes Apple will improve in iOS 5 such as: App Switching, iPad Split Views, and App Organization. He points to a video (below) of an Expose like feature for app switching that was rumored to be coming out in iOS 4 but never did.
