AOL to Launch Flipboard Style iPad Publication This Summer

AOL is readying Editions, its upcoming daily socially generated iPad magazine, for release this summer, according to Business Insider. AOL VP of Mobile David Temkin demoed Editions at the company's Palo Alto offices last night.

While Flipboard scans your Twitter and Facebook feeds to deliver all the stories your friends are reading in a magazine format, Editions aims to generate a once day publication by automatically determining the popularity and correct placement for each article.

To pick these stories, Editions will look at what your social networks are recommending and the general topics they seem to be interested in, as well as your location (to deliver local news). Then, it will look at which stories you click on and how long you spend reading them, and adjust over time. Editions is also not meant to replace Web surfing -- instead, it will be delivered once a day, just like a newspaper.

The publication will initially launch with 1000-2000 sources but can support up to 30,000. You can signup at the link below to receive an alert when it's ready.
