After rumors last week of Best Buy mishandling iPad 2 sales, a new report claims that a Best Buy manager refused to sell a customer an iPad 2 without a service plan.
I was at Best But yesterday while my girlfriend was buying a new pc and asked if they had any iPad 2 in stock and I was told no. As I strolled around I looked up and noticed at least 40 in an overhead lock up area so I inquired about them. I was told by an associate that they were all sold. Two minutes later a manager walks over and says the only way I could have one is if I puchased a 109 dollar Best Buy protection plan.
I said that doesn’t seem right. He then told to try and find one somewhere else they can do what they want. To make a long story short I purchased it just to find out if that was policy. I just went to another store spoke to a manager and was told that is not policy and should have not be forced to but the coverage just to purchase an iPad. After reading the story on CNN I just wanted to follow up with you guys. After my experience I think you were correct about they way they are distributing iPads. Thanks for the time. If you need anything else just let me know.
If this is true, perhaps Apple should force Best Buy to get their act together.
Thats so stupid. Just order directly from apple. This is so stupid.
I would take the name of the manager and call corporate and ask them to officially comment on this policy in a written notice.
Its called inboarding and it's illegal last time I checked. That was a strict no no. I was with BEST BUY for 6 years... and that was a quick way to get fired.
Best Buy customer service and support has been going down for a long while now. I'm not surprised to read stories like this one. This last Sunday I went into the one in Emeryville, CA, and waited, waited, waited for someone to show me either an iPad2 or any other tablet. I left in frustration after 20 minutes. I think they will go the way of Blockbuster soon.... I would not purchase an iPad from them, and definitely not a grossly overpriced extended protection plan.
Crap same happened to me today I went to best buy this morning I asked if they have iPads they said no but while I was browsing near the apple products I saw a sales person with a cart full of iPads I would say probably 30 of them I ask if I could have a 16 gig black wifi only she said I can't I asked why she said they are not supposed to sell them are u kidding me I said to her I work for a apple reseller and I never heard for this before ! Then she goes in this case here u can have one . That is very strange and crazy
But I got it anyway maybe pole should call apple and complain
